If you're like me, you want to do it all.

You want to be successful in your career, in love, and in your relationships.  You want to be physically, spiritually and emotionally fit.  You strive to carry yourself with grace and learn from your mistakes.  You want to make a positive impact on the world in your own unique way.

If you can relate to those things, maybe you also understand that it's easier said than done.  The past comes back to haunt you, self-doubt distracts you and sometimes you can't seem to get out of your own way.

You may even wonder if you deserve the life you want.

Fear and self-doubt disguise themselves as protection, silencing and locking our best parts away, concealing the very things we need to explore.  Until we see through them and discover how much we are holding back from ourselves, we cannot see how much we are holding back from the world.

Developing a writing practice has allowed me to be productive with my busy mind and distracting emotions.  I've learned that knowing and accepting myself and my unique point of view is essential to creating the life I want.

I'm passionate about creative living because not long ago, I discovered that my painstaking mission to find acceptance in the world was misguided.  I'd completely lost myself looking for success on other people's terms.  I didn't know who I was, who I was pretending to be or what I wanted. As I climbed my way out of that, I found that what I really was searching for all along was inner peace -- to know that I am enough, just as I am.  {Who am I? You can find out more about me here.}

I created the Writing the Layers workbook in 2015 to be a resource for women seeking a deeper level of self-awareness and expression.  In 2016, I adapted the workbook into a live workshop that I hosted six times throughout the year, so I could connect with women face to face.  Now Writing the Layers is available as a guided, online self-study series and includes updated material and exercises.

What makes this course different?

T A R G E T E D

+  One thing I hear often about my 4-week online workshops is that there is a lot of information to take in and it can be challenging to keep up.  Since I want to help women incorporate writing for self-discovery into their busy schedules, I decided to create an online option that offers up the process in bite-sized pieces.  The Writing the Layers Self-Study Series breaks the writing and mindfulness techniques down into 21 targeted daily lessons delivered to your inbox.

HABIT-FORMING

+  When you sign up, you immediately receive your first email.  For the next 20 days, at the same time each day, you will receive daily insight with corresponding writing and mindfulness exercises.   This repetition will create a healthy habit that you look forward to and make sacrifices for as it becomes a valued source of recharge and renewal. By creating space in your life for these emails each day for 21 days, you learn how to prioritize time for self-reflection through writing.

TRANSFORMATIVE

+  For these 21 days, you will be reminded daily to write your truth.  If you have the desire to write, but the blank page intimidates you, you will learn how to look at your life for inspiration and reasons to release what's bottled up inside.  You will learn how to work with your writing to recognize patterns, excavate wisdom and develop a stronger voice for testimony and storytelling.  The last email includes a PDF copy of the Writing the Layers workbook, so in addition to the curated emails, you will come away with a timeless resource for your writing practice.

If you want to make writing a bigger part of your life:

"Words that Move is a great course. GG Renee put a lot of work, insight, and care into it. I looked forward to the weekly emails because the subjects and messages were right on time and spoke to my soul. The fellow writers were great also. I so loved the office hour calls, audios, and especially the workbooks. Everything resonated with me and I received so many aha's in writing and business. GG Renee epitomizes vulnerability and strength and has created a space that allows others to tap deep into their unique style of self expression. I've always wanted to take a GG Renee course since I have been following her and now that I have, I am glad I did. A wonderful experience."  - Sharisa Robertson

"I really enjoyed the Words that Heal class. The prompts in the assignments really make you think and dig deep within your soul with your feelings and emotions. GG challenged us to not judge our writing; but to simply just write and not to go back and change what we said. To go with the flow of what's in our hearts as we write. GG's Words that Heal class gives you a deeper perspective of yourself and mental self care awareness.

I really enjoyed connecting with GG and the other writers. Everyone was so pleasant, optimistic and upbeat. This writing class is a positive creative network for women. It was nice to read the other participants writing prompts and to see that everyone has a vision and that everyone is healing from something. I'm not alone. Word's that Heal is therapy for the soul." - Brittany Ervin

"First I want to start off by saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! This course was the kick in the butt I needed and provided me with a whole bunch of other stuff that I'd either forgotten or never knew. Prior to this course I had stopped my blog because I was no longer feeling it and wasn't receiving feedback in the manner I thought I should have been. That also caused me to stop contributing to various online pubs. I also have a middle-grade fiction manuscript that has garnered interest from a few publishing houses, but I stopped working on it too.  I got to a point where I disliked writing. I now know I was looking for satisfaction from other people, rather than finding it within myself.  The desire to write never left me. So when I saw you promoting this course online I knew I had to take it, and I am glad I did.

The class assignments really made me open up and write from a deeper perspective. It has also inspired me to start the revision process for my manuscript. One thing my editor keeps telling me is that I have to show, instead of tell. This course helped me understand how to do that. And I was very thankful that you touched on that at various points in the course. A lot of what I learned and was reminded of will be of great use once I get back to revising my manuscript.  I am all-around inspired and excited to write again, not for other people but for myself. - Tamika Burgess

"I am so so so glad I took your workshop!  I’ve invested in my fair share of courses and such that have benefited me in other areas of my life. They’ve been engaging and all, but none of them have made my heart as full as your workshop has!  Writing has always been a necessity in my life, but I lost my writing voice while on my journey to develop myself as a brand and trying to figure out all of this technical blogging business mumbo jumbo.  It literally, physically hurt me to not be able to write how I used to. Writer’s block was not only frustrating, but I felt empty and lost. Almost as if I truly did lose all ways of communicating.  There were things I wanted to get out of my system but didn’t know how to anymore, and it left me feeling mentally and spiritually clogged up.  But you are the glamorous and nurturing Drain-O to my nasty stubborn hairball!

You not only helped me embrace that I am indeed a writer (important for anyone who struggles with calling themselves this), but all of your practices within each workbook REALLY got the juices flowing for me!  Can I say that I’m actually overwhelmed in the best way possible with all the ways I can get things out of my system? I have SO many things to turn to when I want to write, and they’re absolutely appreciated to the fullest.  It actually makes me wanna find more time and things to write about just so I can do as many of the practices as possible!" - Cierra Mercier

"This class was amazing. I haven't written this much in a long time and I am making it a habit to incorporate writing into my daily practices as the course intended. It helped me be more honest in my writing and realized that I hold back even in personal writing in my journal out of fear. But once I shook that idea, the words started flowing. I experienced the therapeutic effects of writing. I wasn't doing that before. I don't think there's anything that I would change about this course. Thank you for being transparent. It's been an awesome experience and I'm glad I made this investment." - Kaylia Fontenot

"It was such a pleasure taking your workshop and getting a chance to speak with you and the other women via video chat last night. I really loved your workshop! I love that I still have so much more to visit and revisit even after the course. I really love your honesty. I love how you hold us accountable by making sure we carve out time and set boundaries to write, but at the same time you give us permission to be patient and kind to ourselves if we don't make our deadline for the week. I really admire your gentleness with all of us and the process." - Tekquiree Spencer

"You put a lot of work into the material and it shows. You push us and want us to dig into the hard stuff. The things that keep us up at night and eat away at our souls. To work through the mud to get to the lotus underneath. But it's done in such a way that you share your heart, are super transparent and we feel you in everything. So it's not as scary to write through our dark times and push through the resistance. I love to write, I'm expressive but when I'm triggered and relive anything that is painful. I definitely freeze up and don't want to face it. There is a ton of resistance but from this course and your previous work, how you express yourself and have told your story. It's like I can breathe through my own muckiness. You are literally like a big sister who is teaching by example. As Marianne Williamson said "And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same." That is you all the way but I believe that over time it has become more conscious. Because people connect to you and are encouraged by you. You have built the most beautiful tribe of women and I am honored to be a part of it." - Kevonne Chase
